John McCain
United States Senator of Arizona (R)
John McCain was born on August 29, 1936. He is most well known for his role in American politics. Considered a maverick Republican, McCain has been a U.S. Senator from Arizona since 1987, winning re-election in 1992, 1998, and 2004. He was a presidential candidate in the 2000 election, but was defeated in the Republican primaries by then-Texas Governor and now President George W. Bush.
Bill Clinton
42nd President of the United States of America
Bill Clinton was the first Democrat to serve two full terms as president since Franklin D. Roosevelt, though he is the first president since John Kennedy to have never achieved a majority of the popular vote. His election ended an era in which the Republican Party had controlled the presidency for 12 consecutive years, and for 20 of the previous 24 years. That election also brought the Democrats full control of the political branches of the federal government, including both houses of U.S. Congress as well as the presidency, for the first time since the administration of the last Democratic president, Jimmy Carter.
Henry Paulson
Secretary of Treasury
In a unanimous decision, the US Senate confirmed the nomination of Henry Paulson, Jr. for Secretary of the Treasury. He was sworn into office on July 10, 2006. On his first public appearance he announced that one of his four major long-term priorities is addressing the income inequality in the country. Three other challenges he identified were energy policy, maintaining global trade and investment, and reforming citizen entitlement programs.
