Alfonse D’Amato
Former New York Senator, Founder of Park Stategies
Senator Alfonse D’Amato, born August 1, 1937, received his undergraduate diploma from Syracuse University. He then proceeded to take up law at Syracuse University College of Law. He entered the world of politics by way of the Nassau County Republican Party where he served as the county’s public administrator.
From there, Alfonse D’Amato’s career was eventually appointed and elected Receiver of Taxes of Hempstead, New York. In 1977, after serving as Hempstead’s town supervisor, Alfonse D’Amato became the presiding supervisor.
A legislative and political process expert, Al D’Amato began his stint in the United States Senate when he defeated Senator Jacob Javits in 1980. He became known as the senator who gave extra attention and focus to citizens’ individual cases. A member of the President’s Commission on Aviation Security and Terrorism, or PCAST, he was one of those tasked to review the policies of aviation security following the Pan Am Flight 103 sabotage in December 1988.
Other positions and responsibilities previously held by Senator Alphonse D’Amato include membership in the Senate Finance Committee and chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. From 1995 to 1996, Alfonse D’Amato chaired the Senate Special Whitewater Committee that investigated the controversial Whitewater scandal.
A commentator for the Fox News Channel, Bloomberg Radio, and NY1, former Senator Alfonse D’Amato is also involved in a nonprofit organization called Poker Players Alliance and serves as the group’s chairman.
After retiring from politics, Alfonse D’Amato launched the business and development consulting firm Park Strategies LLC in 1999. Park Strategies’ clients include prominent healthcare providers, transportation companies, financial firms, security contractors, real estate, IT firms, and energy concerns.
