Former US Senator from Connecticut

Born as Christopher John Dodd in Willimantic, Connecticut on May 27th 1944, he is known as both a lawyer and a politician from the Democratic Party who used to serve as a United States Senator.

Dodd’s parents were US Senator Thomas Joseph Dodd and Grace Mary Dodd; he is the fifth of six children. He graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, MA and Providence College. He then joined the Peace Corps for two years before attending the University of Louisville to study law school. During his studies, he also served in the United States Army Reserve.

When he went back to Connecticut, he won a seat in the US House of Representatives in 1974 and was reelected in 1976 and 1978. He was elected as senator in the 1980 elections. Today, he is considered as the longest-serving US senator in the history of the Connecticut State and the 9th most senior of senators.

Chris Dodd had been the Democratic National Committee general chairman between 1995 and 1997 and used to serve the Senate Banking Committee as chairman. In 2006, he ran for Democratic nomination for US President, but later withdrew as he was behind other competing candidates. Last January of this year, Dodd announced that he would not run for senator again in the midterm elections.
