Harry Reid

Harry Mason Reid, born in Searchlight, Nevada on December 2nd 1939, is a Democratic Party member and a senior US Senator representing Nevada. He was first elected as senator in 1986 and was re-elected in 1992, 1998, and 2004.
The son of Inez and Harry Reid, Harry Mason Reid studied in Basic High School in Henderson, NV, where he was active in football and amateur boxing. While he was at Basic, he got acquainted with the future Nevada governor Mike O’Callaghan, who taught in the school. After graduation, he continued his studies at Southern Utah University and Utah State University.
It was at George Washington University Law School that Reid earned his Juris Doctorate while he served the United States Capitol Police. He went back to Nevada after studying law and worked as an attorney in Henderson City, prior to being elected to the Nevada Assembly in 1968. Two years later, he was selected by O’Callaghan as his running mate for the state of Nevada’s Lieutenant Governor.
In 1959, Harry Reid married Landra Gould, his high school sweetheart. Harry and Landra Reid have five children, four sons and a daughter. The eldest son, Rory, is the Clark County, Nevada Commissioner. Another son recently ran for municipal office in Utah’s Cottonwood Heights.
