Jon Llewellyn Kyl was born on April 25th 1942 and is the Republican junior United States Senator. A representative of the State of Arizona, he is the current Senate Minority Whip who is in charge of keeping a disciplined party. Born in the Midwest, he transferred to Arizona to pursue his studies. Later on, he got married and pursued a career in the state, running in 1986 to win a seat in the House of Representatives and in 1994 in the US Senate. He has been a senator for almost two decades.

Senator Kyl was named one of the most influential individuals in the world in 2010, as claimed by Time magazine.

Born in Oakland, Nebraska, Jon Kyl is the son of John Henry Kyl and Arlene Pearl (nee Griffith). His father was an educator at Nebraska State Teachers College and an Iowa congressman, after moving to Bloomfield, Iowa. In 1960, after graduating from high school, he studied at the University of Arizona, where he received his undergraduate degree with honors in four years. He earned his degree in Law in 1966 at the James E. Rogers College of Law, University of Arizona.

Prior to pursuing politics, he worked as a lobbyist and lawyer at the Jennings, Strouss & Salmon law firm in Phoenix Arizona.
