Kendall Coffey
Kendall Coffey’s reputation, in and out of the courtroom, is as impressive as his list of credentials. Born in Merced, California on December 5, 1952, Kendall Coffey attended Miami Dade Community College before graduating with a J.D. from the University of Florida in March 1978 with high honors.
After graduation, Kendall Coffey launched his career as an Associate at the distinguished firm Greenberg, Traurig until 1984. Within the next four years, Kendall Coffey became a shareholder and director for the firm, as well as its banking litigation division head. In 1988, Kendall Coffey founded Coffey, Aragon, Martin & Burlington. For some time he also served as University of Miami School of Law’s adjunct faculty member for Trial Practice from 1991-1993. Kendall Coffey then became part of the public sector as a U.S. attorney in the southern district of Florida between 1993 and 1996. Another of his achievements is his role in the establishment of Coffey & Wright, LLP in 2002-2007.
His name is most prominent as a guest legal analyst for several highly regarded news stations such as CNN, Fox, Headline News, MSNBC, CNBC and Telemundo. From 2002-2005, Kendall Coffey had his own “Coffey Talk” segment at CNN. For CBS-4, the Canadian Broadcasting Company, and CNN International, Kendall Coffey also provided social commentary.
Among many of Kendall Coffey’s affiliations are the Florida Bar, Florida Bar Foundation, and the Dade County Bar Association. He has functioned as a key individual for these organizations whether as a member or as an official. Today, Kendall Coffey’s practice areas cover government and election cases, unfair competition, media and public issues, fraud and corruption investigations, business disputes and commercial litigation and administrative law.
Over the years, he handled many high profile cases such as the Elian Gonzalez saga, the 2000 Presidential recount litigation, and Miami’s controversial voter fraud trial. Kendall Coffey received recognition for his charitable support, on top of the pro bono work he does with his firm. In 2006, the American Diabetes Association named him its Valor Awardee for that year.
Earlier on, Kendall Coffey received recognition for his undying commitment to provide to those who need justice the most – the marginalized. In 1990, he took home the Legal Services Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Delivery of Legal Services to the Poverty Community. The year after, Dade Circuit Court bestowed upon Kendall Coffey the honor of the Special Award form Chief Judge for Special Leadership in Providing Pro-Bono Legal Services.
