Considered one of the most powerful women in Hollywood, Kathleen Kennedy is known for producing quite a number of top 20 American films.

Born in Berkeley, California on June 5, 1953, Kathleen Kennedy is well known for producing the movie ET the Extra Terrestrial and the Jurassic Park series. Her main business partners are director Steven Spielberg and her husband Frank Marshall.

After graduating from Shasta High School in California, Kathleen Kennedy went on to San Diego State University where she majored in telecommunications and film. During her last year in university, she took on various jobs at a TV station in San Diego called KCST. She eventually went on to produce a talk show for the station. You’re On aired for four years before Kathleen Kennedy moved to Los Angeles where she worked on her first film production as production assistant under John Milius, who was working with Steven Spielberg in the movie 1941.

It was during the production of the movie that Kathleen Kennedy caught the attention of Steven Spielberg. She was hired as the director’s secretary and then went on to co-produce the hit movie Poltergeist in 1982. That same year, she received full credit as producer for the worldwide phenomenon, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. After that, Kathleen Kennedy went on to produce one hit movie after another including the Indiana Jones series and the dramatic masterpiece Schindler’s List.

Together with her husband and Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy co-founded the production company Amblin Entertainment. She eventually became Amblin’s president until 1992 after she and husband Frank Marshall decided to form their own film production company. The Kennedy/Marshall Company is based in Santa Monica and works with Universal Pictures.

In addition to producing certified box office hits and critically acclaimed films like War of the Worlds and Munich, Kathleen Kennedy has worked with A-one directors like Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Robert Zemeckis, and Barry Levinson.

Kathleen Kennedy is the recipient of the WIF Paltrow Membership Award in 2007. She supports mentorship programs including One to One/Communities in Schools and Workplace Hollywood. She also provides support and assistance to some of the industry’s top female producers.
