Rupert Murdoch
News Corporation Chief Executive
Keith Rupert Murdoch is the chief executive officer of News Corporation, a media and entertainment company. Famed for forming one of the biggest media corporations throughout the globe, he has set his company’s focus on film, television, the Net, book publishing, newspapers, and pay TV with operations in the United States, Continental Europe, Asia, the Pacific Basin, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Born on March 11th 1931 in Melbourne, Australia, he started his company as a small town newspaper in his home country. Currently, News Corporation is among the most influential media businesses in the world. With such success, he has been constantly persuaded by politicians to cover their campaigns.
Prior to News Corporation, Murdoch studied at Oxford University in the UK and later worked briefly at the Daily express before taking over his father’s (Sir Keith Murdoch) newspaper company in Adelaide called the Adelaide News. Eventually, over the years, Murdoch has acquired various newspapers in the US, UK, and Australia.
In 1985, in order to expand his company’s television interests in the US, he decided to become an American citizen. Through the 1980s, News Corporation continued its rapid expansion. Despite a suspension in acquisition efforts in the early 90s, it did not last long as his company quickly recovered and the media magnate continued to pursue his growth- and acquisition-centric vision.
Some of the international companies that News Corporation has acquired under his leadership include Fox Television Studios, 20th Century Fox, Harper Collins Publishers, New York Post, Festival Records, and DIRECTV.
